4Hooves Large Animal Services, LLC provides emergency response and transport (equine ambulance) units that are staffed with dedicated equine owners and professionals who operate our state-of-the-art units capable for providing emergency and non-emergency assistance for sick and/or injured equines, assist attending veterinarians with medical care when necessary, rescue equines from entrapments such as cross-country jumps and other obstacles or confined spaces, transport ambulatory or non-ambulatory equines to advanced or continuous care facilities, remove deceased equines from the view of the public and relocate them to a designated area or diagnostic facility for necropsy, and provide 24-hour emergency response coverage for the duration of the event upon request. Our team of personnel, at minimum a driver and one attendant, that staff our units have education, experience, and specialized training in various aspects of equine handling, emergency care and transport, and overall emergency scene management. It is our policy to work in conjunction with and follow the direction of the attending veterinarian(s) regarding the equine's medical management and care unless the situation warrants otherwise based on our standard operating guidelines, crew member safety or specific equipment application and use.
Our company is proud to offer a choice of two units for event stand-by services, which makes it hassle free for the event organizers or venues to hire one or both with a single correspondence, contract, and payment. This is a perfect solution for those who prefer a primary and a back-up unit on site or require two primary units due to the geographical size, number of competitors, or the level of difficulty the event entails. Having two units on-site also allows for one unit to transport an ill or injured equine off-site if necessary while the second unit remains on-site to cover the event until the return of the other unit.
If hired to stand-by at an equine related event, our mission and goal is to provide a safe and expedient response, assistance with medical care alongside the attending veterinarians, privacy during incidents (both equine and human) using our privacy screens, removal of equines from entrapments such as coffin jumps, timbers, water hazards, and the like, and transport for injured or deceased equines away from the competition area or off the race course while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Our reputation proceeds us as we have been hired year after year to stand-by at equestrian events across North Carolina and South Carolina, and as far away as New Jersey and Kentucky. We have years of experience covering upper-level recognized equestrian competitions, three-day events, cross-country schooling, steeplechases, and more. Our team was honored to have been hired to cover the Endurance Event at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina based on our technical rescue experience, equipment cache’, and all-terrain capability for responses in remote locations. Our knowledge, experience, and training coupled with our cache' of specialized equipment and a two trailers that can not only respond to incidents but can transport make 4Hooves Large Animal Services, LLC one of a few options on the east coast for equine event stand-by services. Whether it is a steeplechase, cross-country event, schooling day, rodeo, organized trail ride, western/english show, endurance ride, or other equestrian event, we are available for hire in case an incident or medical emergency involving an equine, or other livestock animal, occurs.

This letter is in the strongest support possible of the services that you provide to the equine community through your business, 4Hooves Large Animal Services. I have had the privilege of working with you and your team at the Carolina International as well as on numerous occasions at NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine (Veterinary Hospital) during both training events and emergency situations. As an equine orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine and rehabilitation specialist, I am acutely aware of the need for prompt and professional handling of equine on-course athletic emergencies, as this often is the difference between being able to repair a fracture or not, and more importantly to be able to save a horses's life or not. Your team is imminently qualified to work all levels of equine events, including the World Equestrian Games (WEG). You and your team have highly specialized equipment and have repeatedly demonstrated the utmost professionalism, skills, and leadership under very stressful and physically demanding situations. Your team works together as a cohesive unit and is proficiently able to lead and direct others involved, including veterinarians, so that both the horse and all humans involved are safe and working efficiently toward one goal. It is very impressive to watch your team work and it has been an honor for me to get to work with your team on numerous occasions. In summary, I highly support you and your team. There is no other equine ambulance service that I would trust as much and I hope to have the privilege of working with you again.
